Google is the pervasive invasive data company who wants to know all that is you.
Out of all the data points that they capture car speed would be the least of my worries because I don’t speed, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a valid question.
They use individual real time speed from Android as a portion of the aggregate to make a guess on speed of traffic and place that into maps, in a congested area for example. Many mobile devices crowd share speed data…but the Goog takes it a step further:
Your vehicle speed data metric is just one of the hundreds that you provide them so that they can create magic coupons and sell them to advertisers who then sell their products to you via targeted marketing.
So, if you do speed, don’t be surprised when you see advertisements for radar detectors in your gmail box or in app search ads, and more application suggestions related to speed trap applications.
