“Highest Score” takes on a new meaning.
For the fist time in history, astronauts will be able to use capacitive touch screens while gloved. In the past, resistive and pressure sensitive displays were available for use in space, but never capacitive touch screens…which require a very small amount of current to flow from the human body into the digitizer to measure the amount of atmosphere in between where the users finger is…and where it is not.
Astronauts heading into orbit aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft will wear lighter and more comfortable spacesuits than earlier suits astronauts wore.
- Lighter and more flexible through use of advanced materials and new joint patterns
- Helmet and visor incorporated into the suit instead of detachable
- Touchscreen-sensitive gloves
- Vents that allow astronauts to be cooler, but can still pressurize the suit immediately
