650 British lawmakers scored some serious government goodies. An iPad Air 2 and a laptop. Obviously it wasn’t a very good laptop because they didn’t seem to bother disclosing that information. That is an issue when they omit things like that. That makes me react with, ” What the what?” That’s all I have to say about that.
“Terrible idea. If they are having challenges understanding the discriminatory between mobile and portable, then they should have given the business to Redmond. Microsoft also has challenges telling the difference between mobile and portable. Here is there current Win10 deployment strategy”
– Jason Yeaman
You see, there is quite a bit of functional overlap and parity in capability across iPads and portable computers. But this is the thread Killa:
Current Windows 10 discriminators:
- 7 inches or smaller will be a handset (stop it) and run Mobile.
- 8 inches and up gets Windows 10 portable, even if it’s a tablet. Win10 for laptops is basically desktop Windows, which means Tablets on Win10 are desktop Windows as well.
- No one is seeing any reference to a UI design guideline for Windows 10.
- Perhaps Windows 9 was Windows tablet before tablets became portables so they could run Desktop versions of Win 10
Now you can see, Yes? They (Switching to our friends from across the pond) could have gotten a Win10 Tablet that is also a portable and runs desktop Windows. With all that money saved, new tooth brushes could have been procured. But alas…they left a requirement out until the very end of the story over at Patently Apple:
Thurso further noted that “A move away from the Apple operating system at this time would incur costs to change these processes. Our requirements are for a secure, SIM-enabled tablet with a good life expectancy and capable of supporting future upgrades. The Apple iPad Air 2 meets these requirements and is competitively priced when compared with similar models.”
So they needed something that was good and would actually work. Well then, excellent choice in that iPad Air 2, ‘Guvnah’. Pip pip.
